FACTS ABOUT SNOW & ICE: Ice dams are the result of interactions between the snow cover on the roof, outdoor temperature, and heat loss characteristics of the home. Most ice forms with moderate to heavy snow falls followed by daytime temperature range of 15°F-25°F. Ice dams and heavy snow have a potential to damage gutters, shingles and cause water to back up into the home. When water backs up into the home, results can be serious: cracking drywall & peeling paint, warping floors, and sagging ceilings.
